The Inti Wara Yassi Community - CIWY

CIWY was formed in 1994 to help give inner city children a greater sense of self esteem and focus by getting them involved in the care for animals confiscated from the pet trade. They now run two wild animal sanctuaries in different parts of the Bolivian jungle, giving a home to over 3,000 animals, from snakes and sloths to monkeys, parrots, pumas and jaguars. With each purchase you make from El Alto, 1% of your money goes directly to the ongoing work of this inspirational group of people.
If you feel you would like to help this cause further, they are constantly in need of volunteers to help care for the animals not yet released back into the wild. Check out their website for more details.
